Conversion of CO2 into value-added products
Entity:
Design, synthesis and characterisation of materials with electrocatalytic properties suitable for CO2 reduction. The new materials combine organic and inorganic components in an appropriate configuration to favour the fixation of CO2 on them and its subsequent electrocatalytic reduction. This strategy increases the yield of transformation into C1 and C2 compounds of interest to the chemical industry. The reaction medium is water, which lowers costs and reduces environmental problems.
Challenges met
- Decarbonisation of the atmosphere and industrial processes.
- Generation of chemical products of interest from carbon sources not based on fossil fuels.
Scope of application
- Industry in general – any industry that produces carbon dioxide emissions – to reduce its environmental impact by capturing CO2
- Chemical industry – to avoid the use of fossil-based raw materials
