Entity:
The development and scale-up of catalysts for industrial decarbonisation is essential in the technology transfer from laboratory to commercial scale. EURECAT excels in the design and characterisation of innovative catalysts, including nanostructured materials and organometallic complexes. With a unique infrastructure in Catalonia, it offers tests in batch, semi-batch and continuous processes, with a diversity of temperatures, pressures and flow rates. These facilities support a wide range of catalytic processes, from synthetic fuel production to hydrogenation/dehydrogenation and green ammonia production.
Challenges met
Key to achieving the economic, energy and sustainability improvements to decarbonise industry with hydrogen are:
- The ability to develop innovative catalysts and scale-up their production, and
- The ability to scale up processes from laboratory to pre-commercial scale.
Scope of application
Impact on the industrial sector (e.g., replacing fossil fuel sources in the production of chemicals, petrochemicals, polymers, fertilizers) and the mobility and energy sector (e.g., production of synthetic fuels and hydrogen carriers to power fuel cells).
