SCOPE
Use of hydrogen as an energy source
Maturity Level
TRL 5
Development Level
Prototype
Fuel cell controllers
Entity:
The optimal and long-lasting operation of fuel cells is a difficult problem. In addition, in such interesting applications as automotive, the operating conditions and speed change constantly and abruptly and the system must be continuously adapted to the new conditions. Apart from these problems, the safety and reliability of the system must be ensured. This system control is made more difficult by the fact that it is not possible to measure some critical internal variables, such as humidity. In the SAC group we have been developing models, control systems and estimation algorithms for fuel cells of different technologies for several years.
Challenges met
- Dynamic modelling of PEM and SOFC fuel cell systems
- Design of controllers for PEM cells
- Design of controllers for SOFC cells
- Parameter estimation in PEM and SOFC cells
Scope of application
Vehicle retrofit companies, fuel cell vehicle companies, fuel cell manufacturing companies, fuel cell installation or microgrid installation companies, electric utilities interested in storing energy in the form of hydrogen
