Printed membranes and electrodes
Entity:
Differential technology developed by EURECAT for the preparation of components and membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) for large-scale printing processes. As a result of the technology, the following have been developed: a) new low-cost composite membranes based on membrane ionomers, compatible with the preparation of catalyst coated membranes (CCM) and catalyst coated substrates (CCS); and b) new printed conductive electrodes for the preparation of 100% printed or partially printed MEAs (e.g. cathode only).
Challenges met
- Total advanced manufacturing process of CCM or CCS membranes and conductive electrodes and plates for the preparation of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs).
- Scalable large-area printing and coating methodologies enable MEA manufacturing costs to be reduced by a factor of ten.
Scope of application
- Electrolysers and fuel cells
- Autonomous health e-sensors
