Target and non-target analysis of per- and polyfloroalkyl substances (PFAS)

Entity:

ICRA has capacity to perform both target and non-target analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using the following instrumentation:

  • Acquity UPLC MS QTRAP ® 5500 System (Waters SCIEX): quantification of PFAS in water up to ng/L concentrations.
  • Vanquish UPLC HRMS Orbitrap Exploris 120 (Thermo Fisher Scientific): non-target analysis and suspect screening, identification of PFAS degradation products.
  • Ion Chromatography (IC) Orbitrap Exploris 120 (Thermo Fisher Scientific): target and non-target analysis of highly polar, short-chain PFAS.
  • Combustion Ion Chromatography (CIC) System – AQF-2100H Automatic Quick Furnace (Mitsubishi Chemical Analytech), coupled to IC (ICS-2100, Dionex): quantification of total organic fluorine (TOF), total fluorine (TF) and bulk determination of fluoropolymers.

Challenges met

Analysis of PFAS in water is essential to estimate their emmissions for electrolyzers, as well as to establish methods for their control. The battery of methodologies developed at ICRA offers not only quantification of known PFAS, but also elucidation of unknown PFAS

Scope of application

PFAS emmissions from electrolyzers
