Anion exchange membrane electrolyser without noble metals or critical materials for hydrogen production

The electrolyser is based on electrodes decorated with new catalysts that we have developed and patented (Patent EP2516.4). We have built electrolysers with a 4 cm2 electrode area that work at more than 1 A cm2 below 1.8 V cell voltage. We are scaling this technology to a 1 m2 electrolyser to validate its techno-economic feasibility
Challenges met
Obtaining hydrogen by water electrolysis is considered a basic process for the decarbonisation of industry, since it facilitates the production of green hydrogen with limited emissions. However, this process is still very expensive due to the high manufacturing costs of current electrolysers. Using our patented materials, we have succeeded in building a lab-scale electrolyser that is competitive and could lower hydrogen production costs.
Scope of application
Our technology can be used by both hydrogen consuming industries and the transportation industry for hydrogen generation in hydroline stations or distribution centres.
