Modelling and simulation of gasification processes
Entity:
Modelling and simulation of biomass and organic waste gasification processes using the programming environment (Engineering Equation Solver) and the Aspen Plus process simulator. It is proprietary software validated from experimental data to calculate syngas compositions (H2, CO, etc.), efficiencies and production from different feed types, gasification agents and operating conditions.
This software facilitates the development of technological solutions and configurations for the energy integration of gasification technologies with other technologies (trigeneration, waste digestion, power-to-gas, heat pumps, etc.) in order to constitute polygeneration energy systems with the capacity to supply in a flexible and efficient way: electricity, heating at different temperature levels, cooling, fuels, chemical products, etc.
Challenges met
- Calculation of syngas compositions from compounds or mixtures of organic by-products to be revalorised and under different operating conditions.
- Determining the techno-economic feasibility of the revalorisation of organic by-products by gasification.
- Enables the integration of gasification technology in polygeneration systems, integrating them energetically with power-to-gas technologies, biochemical processes, etc.
Scope of application
- Study of the potential for revalorisation and energy integration of organic by-products for the production of hydrogen among other products and services.
- Preliminary design and optimisation of the operating conditions of gasification systems.
