Microwave plasma pyrolysis / waste
Entity:
This process uses the flame surrounded by ceramic radiant tubes. The idea is to take advantage, preferably, of the conduction phenomenon to gasify solid waste such as plastics. Preferably used with short-chain, oxygen-free plastics, e.g. polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Depending on the power and performance of the process, one or two stages can be used. In the first stage the chains of the molecule are broken generating chemical species from CH4, in the second stage the gases are broken to generate carbon and hydrogen.
Challenges met
Excess of plastics that cannot be reused. The material is broken down for use as an energy source or raw material.
Scope of application
In the energy sector, or industry in general as circular economy or symbiosis.
