Hydrogen sensor (nanofibres)
Entity:
The technology developed by IREC is located in the field of hydrogen and industrial gases. The technology consists of a nanomaterial (silicon nanotubes) with thermoelectric properties that, by means of a catalyst, makes it possible to determine the concentration of hydrogen in the atmosphere. The application of most interest to industry is as a wireless hydrogen sensor. Thanks to the thermoelectric capacity of the material, it converts a thermal differential into power, which can feed a small electronic circuit to store the sensor data.
The technology is in a TRIS, and requires the development of a pilot to test it in a relevant industrial setting. Three types of companies are sought: manufacturers of sensors and measuring instruments, gas and energy distributors, and large engineering companies.
Challenges met
- Self-powered devices: maintenance-free
- Low-cost, large-area production: automated and inexpensive
- Flexible material: adaptable to the substrate
- Environmentally friendly: waste reduction
Scope of application
- Hydrogen sector, in particular with sensors.
