Determination of the permeability of materials in hydrogen
Entity:
Evaluation of the permeability of polymeric materials and composites to hydrogen gas at high pressure (up to 100 bar). A test to determine the effect of hydrogen on materials used to manufacture pipes, cylinders, structural components, etc., to determine the susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement of materials and the ability of materials to allow hydrogen to pass through them at high pressures and different temperatures (from 20 °C to 200 °C).
Challenges met
- It allows the ability of the materials to prevent the passage of hydrogen through them to be determined and, therefore, the properties of the materials as a barrier to the passage of hydrogen to be evaluated.
- It allows the hydrogen diffusion coefficient in polymeric, metallic, ceramic and composite materials at different temperatures to be determined.
Scope of application
Producers of pipes, cylinders and containers for the storage of hydrogen gas.
